Unpacking 2018 Wishes Delivered
Everyone knows the holiday season is a hectic time for shipping. Just ask UPS. With high shipping volumes, time-sensitive deliveries and unpredictable weather, it can be a stressful time of year for employees and customers alike.
That’s why for the last five holiday seasons we’ve helped UPS deliver a little bit of holiday magic. In order to find stories that would connect with audiences around the globe, we looked at the topics driving conversation on social media and chose our stories from there. Little Girl, Big Future has themes of women’s empowerment & strong role models, A Wish for Friendship centers around teaching compassion & inclusivity, Delivering Hope tackled relief efforts & community aid, and A Soldier’s Wish was inspired by two things everyone can get behind: veteran reunions & animal rescue.
Here’s a closer look at the four stories that came to life for this year’s Wishes Delivered campaign:
Six-year-old Parson’s love for UPS began when their book and toy drive for the local children’s hospital led to daily deliveries from UPS. One day in particular changed Parson’s entire outlook on life: the day she met a female UPS driver, Tammy. After that day, she knew she could be anything she put her mind to. Even a UPS driver! We kicked off the campaign by delivering Parson an unforgettable day at the UPS hub with her hero, Tammy. Parson spent the day shadowing Tammy and even helped her deliver packages! It all ended with a very special delivery for Parson: her very own tiny UPS truck and the confidence to know she can be anything she wants to be when she grows up.
Mavel’s wish is not for herself, but for her community in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. In the year following the devastation of Hurricane Maria, Mavel and her daughter, Ana, dedicated their time to serving their community despite having lost everything in the storm. To grant Mavel’s wish, UPS spent the day organizing a community warehouse and filling it with supplies. Meanwhile, a group of secret volunteers was on their way to Mavel’s house with new furniture, appliances, and decor, ready to transform Mavel’s house into a home.
Nine-year-old Sammie’s greatest wish is for everyone to have a friend, so she set out to get Buddy Benches in schools across her home state of Indiana. When Sandra, a teacher in Staten Island, New York, heard about Sammie’s mission, she knew she had to get one for her school. So, UPS teamed up with Sammie to deliver! UPS also created a shipping fund so Sammie can continue to deliver Buddy Benches to schools across the country.
For our last Wishes Delivered story, UPS teamed up with SPCA International (SPCA-I) to deliver a very special reunion. Lily, an active duty service member, rescued Kelby while she was deployed in the Middle East. When it came time for Lily to return to the States, she knew she had to find a way bring Kelby with her. So, UPS and SPCA-I delivered just in time for the holidays. To make things better, UPS also funded the reunion of three more rescue dogs with their active duty soldiers, so like Kelby, they can be reunited in their forever home.
